Good afternoon scientists! We just gave our old crayons a new life. They are now LEGO crayons. It was a lot of fun to combined two of our favorite things science and Lego.
Broken or Old Crayons
Silicon Ice Cube Mold
Optional: Cutting Board and Butter Knife
**Adults only for operating the oven and optional knife**
- Preheat your oven to 170 degrees. Unwrap the paper from the crayons.
- Break or cut the crayons into small pieces. Place the broken crayon pieces into the silicon mold so that it is mostly filled. You can do one color per space or multiple colors. It is up to you.
- Bake in the oven for 15-35 minutes or until fully melted. Let cool completely before handling.
In this investigation we gave our old crayons a new life. The crayons melted in the oven causing them to turn from a solid to liquid. As the crayons were able to cool they turned from liquid to solid. When you have a substance that changes state (solid, liquid, gas) it is called a physical change.
