Oozy Slime AKA Oobleck

Happy Thanksgiving scientists! How better to celebrate then get the kids in my family together for a fun slimy science experiment. The adults all had to take a peek at why we were all giggling. 🙂

Materials

Cornstarch

Water (I recommend a plastic bottle)

Plastic Container

Optional: Food coloring (Use a spoon or gloves to mix if you choose to dye, we didn’t dye ours)

Investigation

**I recommend doing this outside like we did, never eat or drink in a lab setting**

**Throw away in the trash when you no longer wish to keep your oozy slime it will clog the drain

  1. Fill a plastic container with some corn starch. Add water at a 2:1 ratio (2 parts for starch to 1 part water).Oozy Slime AKA Oobleck (3)
  2. Using your hands mix up the mixture. Keep adding small amounts of cornstarch and water until you get a oozy slim mixture.Have a great time playing in your oobleck!Talking Points

We created an oozy slime called oobleck. Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid it has the properties of both a liquid and a solid. You can pick up the oobleck like a solid, but it starts to ooze out of your fingers like a liquid.
